So you’ve tried rice cereal and applesauce with your baby. Success! Now you’re ready to take on new combos, introduce fun flavors, and expand that little palette. One of my favorite combinations is banana and avocado puree (a.k.a. banana-cado!) It’s full of good-for-baby fats and nutrients, all wrapped up in a baby-friendly banana flavor. I’m telling you (as someone who’s snuck a few bites herself) it’s delicious!
Wondering how and when to introduce solid food to your baby! I love this comprehensive solid food guide from Mighty Moms Club
Ready to make your own gourmet baby food? Let’s skip the pricey store-bought jars and I’ll show you how to whip up DIY baby food “banana-cado” style in less than 3 minutes. It’s so easy. Here we go!
What you’ll need:
Food processor (Don’t bother with the tiny baby-food marketed ones, just get a good sized regular kitchen appliance.)
breast milk, formula, or water
ice cube trays
Step 1: Puree banana
Just peel and dump the whole banana in there. Pulse for a few seconds until blended. Really, this isn’t rocket science!
Step 2: Puree Avocado
Cut your avocado in half lengthwise, twist to separate, scoop out the fruit and add to food processor. Pulse a few more seconds to blend with banana.
Step 3: Add liquids
If your baby is just starting solids, your solids shouldn’t be very solid at all. Add breast milk, formula, or water to your puree until it’s the consistency of a thin applesauce. Of course older babies can handle more chunky textures, so you can leave this step out if necessary.
Step 4: Store or Serve
If you’ve got a hungry baby on hand, serve this up immediately! Otherwise, just pour into an ice cube tray and freeze. Once the cubes are frozen, pop them out and store in a freezer bag labeled with the contents and ingredients. One cube equals about one ounce of food. When you’re ready to serve the frozen cubes, pop one into the microwave for 30 seconds and you’re good! Seriously, it would take you longer to pry open a baby food jar. I told you it was easy!
Voilà, DIY baby food banana + avocado puree in under three minutes. “Banana-cado” is so simple and delicious. I promise it will be a favorite of your baby in no time!
